QUANTITATIVE RESEARCH

This type of research can be conducted in a variety of ways including face-to-face surveys, telephone surveys and postal surveys.

QUALITATIVE RESEARCH
Qualitative research allows an organisation to learn the true feelings and opinions of the consumer within the market. Focus groups and in-depth interviewing allow this research to be conducted.

FOCUS GROUPS
A group of 6 to 12 people is formed and a mediator is present to ask questions and analyse responses. The mediator also encourages conversation between group members instead of a direct question and answer session occurring. This helps all members to feel comfortable within the group and allows for true opinions to be made. An organisation can learn what is truly wanted from a product and consumer opinions of all products within the market, which includes competitors.

IN-DEPTH INTERVIEWS
This is a 'one on one' interview with the consumer. Questions, which require more opinionated and lengthy answers are asked so detailed answers, can be received. The consumer is encouraged to give their personal opinions and special techniques can be used to ensure that they feel truly comfortable and give true answers rather than answers they feel are expected from them. Organisations can learn how individual consumers are affected by their product or business and how it can help improve the service or product they offer.

The Marketing Bureau can also conduct secondary interview; looking through published articles and research already conducted by other sources.

  • Questionnaire Surveys
